Illumination on Archer
Ahha Museum, Tulsa, OK
12in x 24in (272 names)
Painted magnetic sheets
2021

The goal of my collaborative project was to honor and literally “put a name” to those who loss their lives as a result of the the Tulsa race massacre. Working with TRRC and LM Custom Laser Engraving (an African American fabricator), I compiled a list of names of those who died or were wounded (both identified and unidentified). Each name was digitally designed in a script font, and lasered out of a thin magnetic sheet. The front surface of the name was painted with an industrial grade glow-in-the-dark paint and each name was affixed to the exterior wall of the museum. During the day, the names absorb sunlight that allowed them to glow in the evening.
